Major Delaware interchange closes for construction

The ongoing makeover of the Route One / I-95 interchange will require a heavily-used exit to be closed this week.

The Delaware Department of Transportation says Exit 4B, carrying I-95 northbound traffic to Route 7 northbound, is shutting down late Monday night and will not reopen until early 2013.  The exit is heavily used by shoppers getting to Churchmans Road, as well as by visitors and employees of Christiana Care Hospital.  During the detour travelers may take Exit 3B to Route 273 westbound and proceed to Route 4 eastbound, returning to Route 7.

The closure is part of a massive fly-over connection being built to improve the traffic flow at the notoriously-snarled interchange at I-95 and Route One.  Construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2013, depending on the weather and other factors.
