Legos, art and crocodiles: 5 family activities in Philly this weekend

The kids are back in school! Here are some ways to celebrate this weekend.
Saturday & Sunday: Coast Day & Lego Ships
The amazing TEACH Fleet is back in town! We saw these last year and were able to interview the Captain of the fleet, Wilbert McKinley. His collection of almost 200 ships is on display all weekend at the Seaport Museum. In addition to the amazing 4 to 6 feet long ships, the Seaport Museum has lots of interesting activities and exhibits for Coast Day, both indoors and out! 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Spend a nice late summer day enjoying the wares on display at Clover Market. This outdoor market with loads of artisans will be lining the streets of Chestnut Hill. The market has lots of cool finds for kiddos… everything from antique toys to boutique clothing to funky room designs. They also offer a children’s activity booth and food trucks for when everyone’s had enough shopping. And Fido can come, too. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Friday through Sunday: Impressionism
This weekend is your last chance to make an impression (excuse the pun) with “Discovering the Impressionists” at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Introduce the kids to works from Monet, Renoir, Degas, Manet, Pissarro, and the learn about the art dealer who helped start the movement, Paul Durand-Ruel.
Friday through Sunday: Lyle Lyle Crocodile!
Did you grow up reading about lovable Lyle? I did! Well, the art of children’s book illustrator Bernard Waber is in town for a special exhibit at the National Museum of American Jewish History. On loan from the Eric Carle museum, fans of Lyle and/or Waber can view over 90 original illustrations and artifacts. A great way to connect the younger generation with this talented artist. Runs through Nov. 1.
Friday through Sunday: Fringe Festival!
It’s back and as wild a ride as ever. The Philly Fringe Festival has lots of family offerings. You can chose from a whole list of options, some are even free! Check out the Shaky Players tv show, lol at the Pretty Tall for A Hobbit show, or enjoy the puppet show, Give Me a Hand. The festival runs now through Sept. 19.
