Building a stronger community in Manayunk

NewsWorks reached out to a few key community/civic leaders in Roxborough, Manayunk and East Falls and asked them to tell us what their new year’s resolution is for their neighborhood.  Here’s a response from Kevin Smith, president of the Manayunk Neighborhood Council.

The Manayunk Neighborhood Council mission is to develop and maintain an informed and productive membership.

To notify, inform, and involve residents in decisions that affect their neighborhood. To promote a unified and sustainable community.

In 2011 we will pursue that mission by sponsoring, supporting, and organizing events that will help create a sense of community in Manayunk.

Events that will bridge the gaps between renters, residents, and businesses. Manayunk is unique in the city, with its industrial history, canal, and river.

By building a sense of community around that unique history and by partnering with organizations and institutions, we can make Manayunk a better place to live, work, play, shop, and bring up kids
