Jury gets case in Rutgers webcam spying trial

The criminal case of a former Rutgers University student accused of using a webcam to spy on his roommate’s intimate encounter with another man is in the hands of a jury.

The case attracted national attention after the roommate committed suicide.

Closing arguments were held Tuesday in Indian-born Dharun Ravi’s trial. Jurors got the case Wednesday.
Ravi faces 15 criminal counts, including bias intimidation and invasion of privacy. His roommate, Tyler Clementi, committed suicide in September 2010, just days after the alleged spying.

There’s no dispute that Ravi saw a snippet of live-streamed video of his roommate and another man.

It will be up to the jury to decide whether Ravi violated his roommate’s privacy and whether he did it out of bias against gays.
