Statewide judicial primaries: two blowouts, a non-contest, and a tight race

The Republican contests for Superior and Commonwealth Court nominations were lopsided affairs. The GOP’s endorsed candidates, Vic Stabile and Anne Covey, easily won their contests. Stabile beat Paula Patrick by more than 30 points for Superior Court, and Covey topped Paul Panepinto by 40 points for Commonwealth Court. David Wecht ran unopposed for the Democratic Superior Court nomination. The race for the Democratic Commonwealth Court nod went late into the night, with Barbara Ernsberger and Kathryn Bookvar trading leads. Bookvar, the party’s endorsed candidate, led by less than a thousand votes, with 94 percent of districts reporting. That will likely trigger an automatic recount. Turnout was low: about a half-million voters cast ballots in each primary.
