New Jersey’s Christie casts shadow over Iowa, 2012

Christie’s in Iowa today, but not as a presidential hopeful. Instead, the first-term governor is leaving an imprint as a potential kingmaker–and a distraction.

National Republican strategists and Iowa GOP activists say Christie is casting a shadow over the presidential campaign even though he’s ruled out a 2012 run.

He’s headed to to Des Moines today for an education conference and he’ll headline a fundraiser for a congressman in the leadoff caucus state.

His visit comes as former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota are set to campaign in the state.
