Idle class time for Atlantic City students who skipped class
Atlantic City High School has its own Breakfast Club.
For students who missed too many classes this school year, the school has them making up for lost time with what sounds like the most torturous thing ever for high schools: five hours of silent time inside the school during the summer.
More than 100 students who made the grade but failed to show up enough are attending “credit completion” sessions in order to advance to the next school year.
The Press of Atlantic City reports students with more than 10 unexcused absences will have to sit in the cafeteria in silence from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a handful of make-up days. No technology, no socializing.
Middle Township and Pleasantville high schools are doing the same. All three schools fell below the 90 percent daily attendance rate.
