Haitians try Voodoo, Western medicine to relieve emotional distress

    With Haiti’s only two psychiatric hospitals filled beyond capacity, citizens seeking help recovering from last year’s earthquake and subsequent disasters and illnesses are turning to Voodoo.

    But the country’s Health Ministry is pushing Western medicine as the best way to treat the emotional and psychological impacts of the distress in Port-au-Prince.

    As Susan Philips reports, Haitians are trying every means possible to recover from the past year’s events.
