Grads toss caps in annual celebration

Hundreds of graduates from local colleges and universities braved the rain Friday to toss their caps on the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum with Mayor Michael Nutter and U.S. Congressman Chaka Fattah.

Among the graduates were mother and son Clarice James and Keith Carney, who will both earn their degrees from Peirce College in June.

“It’s beautiful,” said James, a correctional officer, about graduating with her son. “It’s something I wanted to do for myself, but more so for my son, so he can be successful in his career.”

Both James and Carney are considering pursuing graduate degrees.
