Chester County’s Steve Welch gets nod from Gov. Corbett

Pennsylvania Governor Corbett has gone public about his preferred Republican candidate to challenge Democratic U.S. Senator Bob Casey. But the governor’s choice may not lead the party way.Corbett has nodded in the direction of Chester County entrepreneur Steve Welch to get the state GOP’s endorsement. But a Cumberland County Republican Committee chair says she doubts the different regional camps within the party will fall in line behind the governor’s picks.Karen Best says factions within the party will likely grumble and not go along with whomever the party hierarchy chooses to push to the forefront when the state GOP gets together to make its nominations this weekend.        “Particularly in York and Adams County, very strong Tea Party contingents there,” said Best. “They have won seats on the Republican State Committee and it will be an interesting meeting at the end of the month.”The first indication of that trend came recently when Southeastern Pennsylvania Republicans declined to endorse any Senate candidate.
