Fire engulfs roof, third floor of W. Duval St. home in Germantown

Firefighters responded to a house fire on the unit block of West Duval Street in Germantown just before 4 p.m. on Monday.

Roofers had been working at 69 W. Duval St., which was recently renovated by James Thomas, Jr.

The fire engulfed the roof and parts of the third floor of the house and took an estimated 15 firefighters a little over an hour to control to the point that they were packing up. Smoke, not fire, was visible from the outside of the house.

According to the city property records, Thomas purchased the house in September 2011 and had put it up for sale in the fall after completing renovations.
