Philadelphia has received $140,000 in funding to supply electric cars to PhillyCarShare and Zipcar. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection issued the grant, which will fund the installation of chargers around the city for 20 electric vehicles.

The grant will support Greenworks Philadelphia’s goal to reduce the city’s greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent by 2015.

Eighteen electric vehicles in the city’s car sharing programs will displace 18 traditional vehicles, and two parking spaces with charging stations will be available for public use.
