Friends of the Wissahickon: Trail maintenance

    Times/Days of week volunteers sought:  

    – Field work: FOW holds a service project at various locations in the park from 10am to 2pm on Saturdays (9am to 1pm in July and August).  Projects include trail maintenance, invasive weed removal, planting and clean-ups.  April through October volunteer days are typically held 3 to 4 Saturdays per month.  November through March volunteer days are typically held 1-2 Saturdays per month.

    – Trail Ambassadors (Park Docent Program):  Volunteers are required to go through application process and attend the eight-session training program in the winter.  From there, it is a flexible schedule throughout the year.  

    Skills needed: No particular skills required, but there are many skills that are helpful.  For field work – experience with trail maintenance, invasive weed removal and planting.  For Trail Ambassasors – experience with environmental education, outdoors, hiking, leading guided walks.
