Flu vaccine week

Delaware health officials want to keep you from giving the gift of influenza to your friends and loved ones this season.

That’s why they’re encouraging people to get the flu vaccine this week as part of National Influenza Vaccination Week which runs through December 10.  During the 2010-2011 season, the Delaware Division of Public Health administered 5,338 influenza vaccines.  So far for the 2011-2012 season, the total vaccination number stands at 3,812.  Only one flu case has been confirmed in the state this year, but that number is expected to surge in the coming weeks.  Last year, there were 1,470 confirmed cases, which was down compared to 2,247 cases the year before.
