Fishtown native explains ‘planking’ fad

Generally, people want to see their faces in photos. Randi Sether, a Fishtown resident, prefers lying face down on the ground after asking random passersby to snap a shot.

Or on an escalator. Or on a pool table.

Sether stumbled across the fad, known as planking in Australia, on British websites. They called it “the lying down game.”

Sether hadn’t heard the term “planking” until an Australia man fell seven stories to his death on Sunday, while lying face down on a balcony railing. She’s been planking for more than a year now, though, and even has her own website where she posts photos and videos.

Both friends and strangers have sent Sether their own planking photos.

“Her craziest pose may have been on a sizzling Las Vegas escalator, which was so hot, she got grill marks on her nose,” reported The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Sether’s next trip will be to India for a charity race called the Rickshaw Rally.

“I’ll probably get some kind of weird disease laying on the ground across India,” she told the Inquirer.
