Final-ly Friday returns to Mt. Airy

The Business Association of Mt. Airy (BAM) kicked off the Memorial Day weekend with the second installment of its monthly Final-ly Fridays event. Sweltering summer-like temperatures were the perfect accompaniment to this month’s theme, “Summer Start Up.”

BAM brought in six pop-up vendors this time around. Apricot Basket, Black Heart Letterpress, Cookie Friends, K.Y.M. Jewelry, StitchPrism and Vintage Vinyl Journals set up tables with their handcrafted wares along Germantown Avenue. Mt. Airy businesses Little Jimmie’s Bakery Cafe, Malt House Ltd. and October Gallery also got in on the act. Many shops and restaurants offered discounts to lure in strollers-by.

Musical guests were Geneva Ensemble, Saint Mad and Sam Lackey.

Mt. Airy Art Garage hosted an exhibition of its members work and a Quiltapalooza. About a dozen quilting enthusiasts, including several members from Quilters of the Roundtable – an African America quilting guild – took part in the four hour sewing fest.

It’s difficult to know for certain whether Final-ly Fridays are catching on in Mt. Airy. Heavy vehicle traffic along Germantown Avenue suggested that folks perhaps had a trip to the shore in mind instead of enjoying something closer to home.
