Police: Bank teller foils plot to scam Philly pastor

Police say an alert bank teller kept an elderly Philadelphia church pastor from being scammed out of money.

Investigators say the teller realized something was amiss when 80-year-old Deo Gokool arrived to withdraw $5,000 that he planned to hand over to two men as good faith money for a large donation.

Gokool says the men approached him seeking to donate part of a $700,000 insurance settlement. Gokool offered to use his church, The New Experience Worship Center, to disburse the money to the poor.

WPVI-TV reports the scam fell apart at the bank when the teller told Gokool she’d need to have an officer escort him to his car if he withdrew $5,000.
