Fight to claim whoopie pie reaches House of Representatives

Update: The Associated Press reports the House debate has been delayed until tomorrow at the earliest. Better things to do, perhaps?

Original report: This is America, where you can protest funerals, pretty much say what you want and sue the pants off anyone you please. You can also fight over a dessert and create legislation to lay claim to said dessert. You could also probably make a reality show out of it.

Lawmakers in Maine are taking a shot today at Pennsylvania as the New England state presses on to lay claim to the whoopie pie. Yup, that’s still happening.

Pennsylvania Dutch Country says the cream-filled chocolate dessert is a Keystone State original. Maine makes the same argument for itself, and its legislators are considering formalizing it today. The Associated Press reports the House of Representatives will take up the bill today, with opposition from some committee members.
