Extensive traffic delays in downtown Toms River Monday morning

Utility repairs following an early Sunday morning crash are spurring delays in downtown Toms River Monday morning, police said.

Jersey Central Power and Light Company is working in the area of Water Street and Robbins Parkway, said Ralph Stocco, spokesman for the Toms River Police Department, in a release.

Due to heavy traffic volume and detours, several secondary roads are becoming congested, according to Stocco.

The affected roadways include Water Street, Main Street, Route 166, Hooper Avenue, Hadley Avenue, and Washington Street.

“Motorists are strongly urged to avoid the area and take alternate routes,” Stocco said.

Police charged Jaymee Tice, 31, of Beachwood with DWI, reckless driving, and failure to provide insurance documents following a single-vehicle crash on Water Street near Robbins Parkway at 5:52 a.m. Sunday that sent a utility pole and wires to the ground, according to Stocco. She was uninjured.
