Ex-cop caught on video hitting woman found not guilty

The former Philadelphia Police veteran caught on video hitting 39-year-old Aida Guzman in the face has been found not guilty of simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor.

A bench trial was held for Jonathan Josey on Tuesday morning. Judge Patrick Dugan handed down the not-guilty verdict, claiming the video “didn’t tell the whole story.”

Josey was charged by the district attorney’s office in November for the Sept. 30, 2012, incident at 5th and Lehigh Streets in North Philadelphia after the Puerto Rican Day parade. A witness video-recorded Josey knocking Guzman to the ground and leading her away, bloodied, in handcuffs.

“I respect Judge Dugan’s decision but I disagree with it,” said District Attorney Seth Williams.
