Enrollment drop reported at New Jersey county colleges

Enrollment is a mixed bag for New Jersey’s 19 county colleges. Overall, it’s down more than 2 percent, but some — like Gloucester and Burlington —are bucking the trend with slight increases.

They’re taking individual and collective measures to fight the decrease.
The Press of Atlantic City reports the colleges have seen a shift toward part-time enrollment, but it’s unclear if that’s because students are working more or just can’t afford to attend. Remedies include lowering tuition rates for out-of-county students and reworking remedial programs to help students who didn’t get the college prep they needed.
