End to free parking eyed at Trenton-Mercer Airport

Free parking may be coming to an end at Trenton-Mercer Airport, where Frontier Airlines is expanding its schedule of flights.

Mercer County officials say they may have to start charging for parking to pay for a new lot they plan to build in conjunction with Frontier.

County spokesman Michael Boonin tells The Times of Trenton discussion of parking fees is in the early stages.

Frontier announced last month it would add five nonstop destinations from the airport in Ewing starting in the spring. They are Atlanta; Chicago-Midway; Columbus, Ohio; Raleigh, N.C., and Detroit.

When the airline announced the expansion it cited the free parking as one of the airport’s attractions.

Freeholder Andrew Koontz says he doesn’t believe reasonable parking fees will hurt business.
