DROP lawsuit transferred to the Supreme Court’s jurisdiction

Jurisdiction of the lawsuit filed against Philadelphia City Council members Frank Rizzo and Marian Tasco has been transferred to the Supreme Court.

The suit, filed by Republican Committeeman Matt Wolfe, aims to remove Rizzo and Tasco from the council ballot on grounds that they’re enrolled in the Deferred Retirement Option Program, which allows participants to effectively retire for a day, collect their pensions and get rehired.

Wolfe notified WHYY’s Tom MacDonald that the transfer may actually speed up the case, as it was expected to reach the Supreme Court level anyway. The Court of Common Pleas is now out of the picture.
