Devil’s Pool closed by police

Fairmount Park officials have closed Devil’s Pool to swimmers and divers.

On Sunday, more than two-dozen teenagers were seen standing and sitting on the rocks at Devil’s Pool as two policeman stood guard.

The popular swimming hole in Fairmount Park is off limits for now, according to two officers with the 14th Police District, who said the moratorium is a reaction to folks leaving the area a mess.

One of the officers said he had been at the site through most of the day and would be until 6 p.m., when his eight-hour shift was over.

Another said that daring jumpers could be arrested for disorderly conduct.

They said the order has been in place for the past two or three weeks. It’s unclear when it will end.

On Thursday, the New York Times published a photo of people jumping into Devil’s Pool on its front page.
