Delle Donne shines in WNBA pre-season debut

The former Blue Hen who led Delaware to the Sweet 16 this year appears to be making a smooth transition to the professional level.

Elena Delle Donne made her WNBA debut for the Chicago Sky today in a pre-season contest against the New York Liberty.  Delle Donne led all scorers with 17 points in the Sky’s 85-67 win over New York.

Chicago selected Delle Donne second in the WNBA draft this March and has high hopes that the college stand-out will help the Sky improve on 2012’s 14-20 record.  The Sky open the regular season on May 27 at Phoenix against the first overall pick in the draft, Britney Griner.  That contest will be televised nationally on ESPN.

They won’t come anywhere near Delaware until July 2, when they play at New York.  Later that month, Delle Donne’s new team will be in Washington D.C. on July 24.
