Delaware State Fair opens for 93rd year

The 93rd annual Delaware State Fair is set to kick off and will include concerts by local acts, a homebrew beer competition and a pig-kissing contest.

The fair will be held in Harrington from Thursday through July 28. It will also feature a monster truck show, culinary contests and a nightly parade.
More than 300 beer entries have submitted for the second-annual homebrew beer contest, which will be held Saturday. Winners in 23 styles will be selected.

Danny Aguilar, the fair’s assistant general manager, says a paging system will be in place this year to alert fairgoers of any emergencies, foul weather or other announcements. Attendees also can sign up for emergency text messages on the fair’s website.
