Delaware jobless rate drops below 6%

There were 8,000 more jobs in Delaware in March 2014 than there were this time last year.  That pushed the unemployment rate for March  to 5.9 percent.

The Delaware Department of Labor reported it recalculated the February rate, which was originally reported to be 6 percent, and said it was also 5.9 percent.

The job growth is the largest number since 2005.  It’s the first time the unemployment rate has been below 6 percent since October 2008.

Last March, the rate was at 6.8 percent.  The percentage drop in a year has taken the number of unemployed in Delaware from 30,300 in March 2013 to 26,200 in March 2014.
