Delaware governor details plans for outdoor initiative

The weather’s not quite right for an announcement like this, but Del. Gov. Jack Markell will forge ahead anyway.

Markell this morning is set to announce a “Sussex Outdoors” to encourage more families to make use of the county’s natural expanse. The partnership with Delaware the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control and Delaware State Parks, Sussex County Council, Sussex Child Health Promotion Coalition and Nemours Health and Prevention Services works to get people outside, educate them on nature, provide recreational activities and teach about conservation.

As part of today’s announcement at the Trap Pond Nature Center in Laurel, Markell will talk about the “First State in Trails” initiative to create interconnected trails and paths throughout the county.
