Delaware Fire Marshal reminder: fireworks are illegal in the First State

Delaware is one of just a few states in the country that prohibits fireworks except when being used by professionals.

As 4th of July approaches, the state Fire Marshal’s Office reminds Delawareans that firecrackers, bottle rockets and even sparklers are prohibited in the state.  Don’t be fooled by the proliferation of signs and billboards that advertise fireworks for sale.  The retailers are in bordering states, and buying fireworks there and transporting them into Delaware for private use is also against the law.  Violations can result in fines or more serious offenses if the illegal use of fireworks results in injury or property damage.
