Delaware County man’s recovery leads to Italian priest’s canonization

A Delaware County man’s recovery from a rollerblading accident will serve as the miracle needed to canonize an Italian priest.

When Springfield’s William Glisson, Jr. was injured in a 2002 rollerblading accident, family and friends used relics of Father Louis Guanella to bring Glisson from his coma.

His recovery has been deemed a miracle, with the medical commission of the Vatican’s Congregation for the Causes of Saint determining Glisson’s cure was not caused by science or medicine. That paved the way for the canonization of Father Louis Guanella.

Pope Benedict XVI will canonize Guanella Oct. 23, and and Oct. 24 mass at Cardinal Krol Center at Don Guanella Village in Springfield will honor the new saint’s feast day.
