Delaware Avenue pier catches fire

Fire crews were called to Delaware Avenue early this morning to extinguish a pier fire.

The pier off Tasker Street along the 1600-block of Columbus Boulevard was in flames around 5:30 a.m. Action News has a photo of the blaze, and reports it took a marine unit to put out the fire after ground crews had difficulty accessing the flames.

The pier is behind a large South Philadelphia shopping center that includes a Walmart, Home Depot and A.C. Moore.
