Debating the bin Laden photo release
Should he or shouldn’t he? Rumors that President Barack Obama was going to release the death photos of Osama bin Laden — followed by confirmation that in fact, the photos won’t be released — have everyone speculating. And debating. And choosing sides.
NewsWorks blogger Dick Polman agrees with the decision. He outlines five main reasons why Obama’s choice to conceal the photos is the right, though understandably frustrating, decision.
Star-Ledger columnist Mark Di Ionno disagrees. Di Ionno says Americans have the right to see the photos for two core reasons: free press and closure. We saw the photos from 9/11, he says, so why not these?
Both acknowledge a potentially hightened risk to American security if the photos are released.
