Daily News to be “loud, irreverent, fun”

Philadelphia Media Network has publicly announced the hiring of former Philadelphia magazine editor in chief Larry Platt as editor of the Daily News. As we reported earlier, current DN editor Michael Days will take on the role of managing editor of the Inquirer.

What jumps out in the PMN statement is the network’s plan for the Daily News:

“[Platt] is extremely well suited to begin the transformation of the Daily News into a loud, irreverent and fun tabloid. I am pleased to have Larry joining our Network and excited about his plans for the Daily News,” said Greg Osberg, CEO and publisher of Philadelphia Media Network.

The role changes, effective Jan. 31, are among other masthead shakeups at the papers, carving out new and different roles for existing staffers.
