Couture on Ice launches a chilly Philly Fashion Week [photos]
Despite frigid temperatures and the threat of snow, friends Erika Reinhard and Allison Sylvester Monday night joined a small group of hardy souls at Rothman Ice Rink in Dilworth Park for “Couture on Ice,” Philly Fashion Week’s opening event.
“This is awesome,” exclaimed Sylvester as the models laced up their skates. She and Reinhard, a South Philly native, later joined the models on the ice.
Seven models faced down the freezing wind and took to the ice showcasing designer clothing by Closet by Christobal, Ayasi Afi, and Stephanie Cain. They also wore coats from Zinman Furs.
At first timid on the ice, the models soon warmed up to their blades and started to have fun with each other and their couture in the rink. One model took a spill, but all were in good spirits, showing off the beauty and functionality of their garments on ice.
It was a fitting start to this year’s celebration, with snow and sub-freezing temperatures forecast to continue through the week.
Philly Fashion Week events include a Masquerade Ball Tuesday night at the Liberty Museum and culminate with a Couture Runway Show at Crane Arts Building on Saturday night.
