Saddle up for Courtesy Stable’s Spring Fling this weekend

This Saturday, Courtesy Stable in Andorra will host a Spring Fling from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. In its sixth year, the event is an annual fundraiser for Courtesy Stable. It’s also a chance for neighbors and the larger community to experience equestrian life in the Wissahickon Valley.

The Boarders & Stewards of Courtesy Stable is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to uniting horses with the community and the Wissahickon Valley.

The event will feature mini-riding lessons led by Walt Sasse, the beloved barn manager of Courtesy Stable, recently recovered from hip surgery.

“Folks will learn to keep their seat and hold their feet,” said Cynthia Turecki, co-director of Courtesy Stable. Junior staffers will also offer riding demonstrations and solicit questions.

In addition, there will also be a combination yard sale/flea market held on the grounds. According to Turecki, twelve vendors are already signed on. Turecki added that one of the vendors – Silpada Jewelry – will donate a portion of their proceeds to Courtesy Stable.

Turecki said this year’s Spring Fling will build upon the sense of community already developed by Courtesy.

“There’s lots of neighborhood involvement,” she said. And, of course, “people love seeing the horses.”

If you can’t make it to the event, but still want to help Courtesy Stable with their mission of “Horses, Humans, and Habitat,” Courtesy Stable is accepting tax-deductible donations that will help the stable and, as Turecki points out, “preserve the natural beauty and history of the Wissahickon Valley.”
