Police: Barista attacked, raped at Bella Vista coffee shop

Police in Philadelphia are searching for a suspect they say is responsible for the brutal rape of a barista at a south Philadelphia coffee shop.

Authorities say the woman is recovering after the assault, which happened at the Bean Exchange Coffee Shop around 6:15 a.m. Thursday.

The shop is at 7th and Bainbridge streets.

Police Lt. Raymond Evers says the man told the woman he was homeless and needed money to get back to his shelter. The victim gave him a dollar, but Evers says the suspect returned later, demanded money and then sexually assaulted her in the bathroom.
