Updated: City Hall roadwork creates a traffic nightmare

Update: Things, it seems, have gotten worse. WHYY’s Tom MacDonald tells us water is gushing from the very spot seen in our photos. Oh, dear.

Your commute is going to look like this for at least the next couple weeks. Work on the four roads around City Hall began yesterday, and as was anticipated, getting around is somewhat of a nightmare. As if it already wasn’t.

WHYY’s Lizz Fiedler took the bus to an assignment earlier today, only to come to a complete stop as the bus neared City Hall. Portions of the circle made up by South Penn Square, East Penn Square, 15th Street and J.F.K. Boulevard are closed, she said, and the lack of lines make the lane-changing game even more perilous. If all goes according to plan, the work will be finished April 29.Remember, folks: seatbelts, turn signals and patience.
