CHOP fires general counsel over ‘financial irregularities’

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has fired its executive vice president and general counsel.

Hospital spokesman George Bochanski said an internal investigation revealed evidence of “financial irregularities” in connection with Roosevelt Hairston Jr. that violate the hospital’s employment policies and codes of ethical conduct. “The circumstances that we’ve discovered have to do with financial activities and in no way have an impact on the care or services that Children’s Hospital provides,” Bochanski said.  The hospital has turned the investigation over to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Philadelphia. That office has no comment. Hairston has been working at CHOP in different legal positions since 1997. He was named general counsel in April.
