Cary, Lorene

    Lorene Cary is a novelist, educator and winner of the Philadelphia Award.  She founded Art Sanctuary in North Philadelphia, a program that uses work by black artists to “inspire and unite” individuals.  In October, Mayor Michael Nutter appointed Cary as a member of the Philadelphia School Reform Commission.  Her book, The Price of a Child, was Philadelphia’s first “One Book, One Philadelphia” selection.
