Buffalo professor pens book about Chester

Dr. Chris Mele is a University of Buffalo sociologist, a Wilmington native and a University of Delaware graduate.

He’s also the author of a book he hopes will come out in 2013 about Chester. Mele’s been studing the city for three years and is writing a book about its plight. Tomorrow, he’ll feature Chester in a lecture in Buffalo called “The Art of the Deal: Casinos, Prisons, Incinerators and Other Adventures in American Urban Development.”

The Delaware County Daily Times reports Mele and Mayor Wendell Butler don’t ncecessarily see eye to eye on the city’s progress, and Mele says Chester has a ways to go.

While Butler touts the Harrah’s Casino and PPL soccer stadium as attactions, Mele says those features bring people in but don’t get them to stay.
