Back at the keyboard

I’ve been away a few days, and I come back to discover that the Philadelphia firefighters union really is endorsing Milton Street for mayor. I’ll get to their news conference today ask leaders whether they really think somebody who’s declared bankruptcy, went to jail for not paying taxes, and still owes the city, the IRS and the state of New Jersey over a million bucks is going to live up to any promises he makes to them.

I’m pleased to report that at least two of the City Council candidates I’ve been nagging to get required information about their campaign committees in to the city Ethics Board have come clean. Good for Democratic incumbent Curtis Jones and Republican at-large candidate Malcolm Lazin.

I’ll check and see how many of the 13 others are still holdouts, and report on that when I can.

And while many teachers unions around Pennsylvania are agreeing to wage freezes to help school districts struggling with declining state funds, we hear that shameless employees of the state legislature are prepared to take raises this year. See this story from Kari Andren of the Harrisburg Patriot-News.
