Village Elementary School in Holmdel was under lockdown early Tuesday afternoon following a report of an armed intruder at the school, authorities said.

Students and staff were evacuated from the school on McCampbell Road, according to a statement posted on the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Facebook page

No injuries were reported, and an investigation continues into what authorities say appears to be a hoax.

Local and county authorities were on the scene and conducted a survey of the area.
