Attention, shoppers

An analyst is urging Wal-Mart to consider expansion in large cities like New York, Chicago, and — yes — Philly, and leave ideas for branching out in Africa, India, China and Brazil on the drawing board for now.

According to an item in the Inquirer, analyst David Strasser of Janney Capitla Markets, said that building American will give Wal-Mart “higher productivity, higher margins, and better return on capital.”

Said Strasser: “Every major city could have smaller-format stores.”

Wal-Mart recently closed its Russia office, a move applauded by Strasser.
