Amy Quinn gets married again, Jersey Shore-style, as same-sex couples say ‘I do’

As a long-wedded Amy Quinn, I’m happy to congratulate another Amy Quinn — the Asbury Park City Council member — as she and wife Heather Jensen became one of New Jersey’s first same-sex married couples early Monday.
It happened on the boardwalk, of course.
Three couples were wed in the chilly midnight near the Paramount Theater and Convention Hall, joining others across the state in becoming the first gay and lesbian couples to legally marry in New Jersey. The Asbury Park Sun has a slideshow here, and as they reported, the ceremony was especially poignant for one of the couples, Karen and Marcye Nicholson-McFadden of Aberdeen. They were plaintiffs in both a 2002 lawsuit that paved the way for the state’s civil unions law and a more recent case that successfully challenged civil unions.
NewsWorks joined other couples as they took their vows Monday, and in Newark, mayor and Senator-elect Cory Booker officiated, as couples rushed to make their unions legal before an expected legal challenge by the Christie administration. Instead, the governor dropped his appeal, securing both the newly-married couples’ statuses and likely his own re-election.
Quinn and Jensen have been together more than a decade and were married in New York in June, so they’re not exactly rookies at the whole marriage thing, but they told reporters it felt especially sweet to make it official in their home city of Asbury Park.
