Air quality alert in effect

An air quality alert is in effect today, according to the National Weather Service.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued a “Code Orange” alert.

“Air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups,” the alert advises. “Sensitive groups include children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases, and the elderly.”

The alert covers the entire Jersey Shore.
