Last day for adultBasic

Today is scheduled to be the last day of coverage for more than 40,000 Pennsylvania adults through the state-subsidized health insurance program adultBasic.

After quite a battle, including a failed latch-ditch effort to save the coverage, the program will officially become a casualty of the commonwealth’s dire financial situation.

Enrollees who are losing their coverage after today can call the state Department of Insurance’s help line, 1-800-GO-BASIC, or go on its website for guidance on new coverage options.

Advocates for the poor are planning a candlelight vigil Monday evening at the governor’s official residence in Harrisburg.
