Academy of Natural Sciences’ bird collection on display at the airport

Travelers headed out of Gates C and D from the Philadelphia International Airport have a chance to see a sample of one of the 10 largest bird collections in the world.

The Academy Takes Flight collection features 54 bird mounts and is on display through November in celebration of the Academy of Natural Sciences’ 200th birthday. The Academy has over 200,000 bird specimens in the museum, representing more than 7,000 species.

At the airport, the interactive exhibit showcases birdcalls from six of those species: the Lyrebird, Rufous Hornbill, Lesser Racket-tailed Drongo, Cooper’s Hawk, Great-horned Owl, and Laughing Kookaburra.
