6 events full of holiday cheer for the family this weekend

    Here’s a look at what’s going on this weekend.

     

    Friday: Carol night

    Chestnut Hill College continues this annual tradition at 7:30 p.m. in the stunning rotunda of St. Joseph’s Hall. The holiday concert will feature performances from the school’s ensembles. Santa Claus will make a special appearance and is available for whispered gift wishes.

    Friday: First Friday in Manyunk 

    Take the kids and enjoy the night in Manayunk’s First Friday. Grab a bite, enjoy discounts at shops, and take in Main Street’s early December evening glory.

    Friday: Friday night lights!

    The Garden Railway at the Morris Arboretum is all decked out for the holidays. Wonderful to see at any time of day, but especially magical at night! Kids and their grown-ups can enjoy white lights along the tracks and a sweet treat from Bredenbeck’s Bakery. Advance ticket purchase is strongly encouraged. If you can’t visit Friday, the trains are running almost every day through Jan. 4. 

    Saturday: Holiday Bazaar with horses

    Another great tradition is heading to Northwestern Stables and seeing the horses decked out for the season, snapping holiday photos with Santa, getting “reindeer” riding lessons and checking out gift ideas from craft vendors. Food and beverages will be on hand for shopping breaks. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

    Saturday & Sunday: Mt. Airy Holiday Fair

    The Mt. Airy Arts Garage Holiday Fair hosts 40 local artists selling their unique original artwork, combined with live music, food and holiday cheer for the entire family, All free of charge! Stop in to the 5th Annual Holiday Art Market Extravaganza at the Mt. Airy Art Garage from noon to 6 p.m. a weekend of art and celebration. The market will return Dec. 20 and 21.

    Friday through Sunday: Where on The Hill is Santa?

    Santa will be busy on The Hill this weekend! You can spot him at the Chestnut Hill College Carol Night on Friday night, you can visit him at Greene Street Kids on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m., and you can track him walking along The Avenue on Sunday from noon to 3 p.m.
