40 Ursinus College students report stomach ailment symptoms

Officials at an eastern Pennsylvania college say dozens of students have reported symptoms of a stomach infection.

Ursinus college says 17 of the 40 students reporting symptoms such as vomiting and stomach pain have been treated at a local hospital.

A college spokeswoman said in a statement Wednesday that officials are working with Montgomery County health authorities to try to determine whether the ailment is food-borne or transmitted from person to person. She said the cause hasn’t yet been confirmed.

As a precaution, Ursinus is temporarily closing areas of its dining hall for cleaning and will be serving a limited menu Wednesday. Officials are also prioritizing cleaning in residential and common areas.
