‘Fastest’ beer dispenser tapped in Philly

What’s billed as the fastest beer tap is making its Philadelphia debut.

The hope is the “Bottoms Up” tap system eventually will obliterate beer lines at the Wells Fargo Center. Ike Richman of Comcast-Spectacor, which runs the sports arena, explains how the tap can fill a beer cup in under five seconds.

“Take the cup. It has a magnet at the bottom of the cup. The cup is placed on top of the tap. When the tap is pressed, the magnet goes up, the beer fills from the bottom to the top of the glass, and then the magnet goes right back to the bottom,” he said. “And when you are done, you have a little take-home magnet to take home and put on your refrigerator.”

For now there are four taps available. Richman wants to bring more of them to the center. While sports fans may be able to get their beer more quickly, there will still be “alcohol compliance officers” to cut off those who have had too many.
